Exploring Art

Premise

Great visual art allows us to explore what we have been, what we are now, and what we may become. Production of great visual art requires creativity, sensitivity, and long-term dedication to a chosen art form.

Stream Description

In the exploring art stream, students will study artists and their work in relation to historical, social, and political significance, culture, and the philosophy of society in which they exist. Students will explore answers to such questions as the following: What is great art? What role does art play in society? Do we need art? What value does our society place on art and artists? Why do people become artists?   

Simulation Descriptions

  • Study artists and their work in relation to historical, social, and political significance of the society in which they exist.

  • Explore answers to such questions as the following: What is great art? What role does art play in society? Do we need art?

  • Explore your creativity in order to understand its role in the interpretation and production of art.

  • Experiment with studio techniques to gain a better understanding and appreciation of the skills necessary to produce a great work of art.
